Lymphatics Flashcards
What do T cells and B cells do?
Specific response to invaders including antibody production
What do NK cells do?
Like T cells but don’t need antibodies
What are monocytes and what do they do lymphatically?
Macrophages(ingest and destroy invaders in presence of antigen) and dendritic cells(find and process and share androgen)
What do basophils and mast cells do?
Mediate inflammation and allergic reaction
What do eosinophils do?
Destroy invaders, esp parasites
What do neutrophils do?
Destroy invaders
Where are T cells differentiated and how?
In the thymus. T cell enters, contacts epithelioreticular cell and they divide and express CD4,8 and TCR. Then they only express one of CD4,8 and go into blood
How are T cell differentiated in blood?
Contacted by specific antigen. CD4 becomes regulatory (self tolerance) or helper (stimulate B cells, killed by aids). CD8 becomes cytotoxic, kills virus infected cells and tumors.
Purpose of blood thymus barrier?
Epithelioreticular cells and macrophages prevent antigens from touching developing T cells
Hassals corpuscle?
Concentrated epithelioreticular cells. In medulla of thymus
Steps in B cell activation?
In lymph nodes, antigen contacts B. Endocytosis, changed, expressed on surface. Helper T binds and expresses interleukins to further activate. Cloning happens, produces memory cells and plasma cells
How do lymphocytes enter and exit lymph nodes?
Enter in arterial blood, exit to lymph via post capillary venules
How do lymph and blood flow in lymph node?
Lymph in convex, our concave. Blood in and out concave
Where are lymphocyte nodules and cords?
Nodules in cortex, cords in medulla
Where are non encapsulated nodules found?
Respiratory and digestive, for catching things that penetrate endothelium
