candidiasis
any infection caused by fungus of the genus Candida. usually superficial infection of moist areas of the body - commonly seen in vagina

bacteria genus that multiply only within host cell. Can cause infertility, especially in females
dystocia
abnormal or difficult labor
endometriosis
generally benign disease which functioning endometrial tissue is present in areas outside of the uterine cavity
fibroadenoma
adenoma (benign tumor) composed of fibrous tissue. Typically in the breast
fibrocystic disease
formation of benign but painful cysts in the breasts
gonorrhea
STD from bacteria Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Symptoms: inflammation, pain, pussy discharge. Typically worse in males but can cause female sterility
herpes
refers to any inflammatory skin disease caused by herpes virus. Characterized by the formation of small clusters of vesicles.
hyatidiform mole
abnormal pregnancy in which the chorionic villi form a mass of cysts that looks like a cluster of grapes
infertility
diminished or absent capacity to produce offspring.
leiomyoma
(plural: leiomyomata) a benign tumor derived from the smooth muscle. also called a fibroid
mastitis
inflammation of a mammary gland or the breast
melasma
also called the mask of pregnancy. Blotchy, brownish color that occurs over the forehead and malar eminence, and aerolas, and in a dark line down the abdomen.
nabothian cyst
small, yellowish mass consisting of dilated endocervical gland and appearing at the external cervical os
oophoritis
inflammation of an ovary
Paget disease
intraductal carcinoma of the breast. also refers to a neoplasm of the vulva closely associated with the disease, but less likely to become cancerous.
placenta previa
when the placenta implants over or near the internal os of the cervix. Can be partial or total. characterized by sudden painless vaginal bleeding late in pregnancy
precocious puberty
onset of sexual maturation at an earlier age than normal. Girls = 8, Boys = 9
preeclampsia
complication of pregnancy which is characterized by hypertension, edema, and or proteinuria
puerperal
pertaining to the period from the end of the third stage of labor until involution of the uterus. Which is usually 3-6 weeks.
puerperal infection
any infection which afflicts the mother during this puerperal phase.
salpingitis
inflammation of a fallopian tube
syphilis
STD that goes through three different stages and can be latent for years. Can impact any tissue or organ in the body. Primary symptoms include lesions, rashes, and eventually compromises major body systems.

Turner syndrome
developmental defect in which the ovaries are either absent of represented only by streaks of ovarian tissue in the broad ligaments. Menstruation does not occur.

benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)
or hypertrophy. often occurs with age, when prostate enlarges to 2-4x normal size

hydrocele
cystic mass of the spermatic cord, testicle, or both. Consists of fluid between the two layers of the tunica vaginalis
hypospadias
malformation of the urethra in which the opening is located on the undersurface of the penis instead of the tip
epispadias
urethra is on the top of the penis instead of the tip
orchitis
inflammation of the testicle, usually accompanied by epididymitis
phimosis
inability of the foreskin to be retracted from the glans penis
paraphimosis
inability of foreskin to be replaced over the glans once it has been retracted
priapism
persistent abnormal penile erection that is not accompanied by either sexual desire or excitation and causes serious pain and tenderness
prostatitis
inflammation of prostate
spermatocele
spermatic cyst. occurs adjacent to the epididymis and usually contains sperm. Can look like a third testis
torsion
specifically the twisting of the spermatic cord. Runs in families, can become gangrenous within hours
veriocele
collection of large veins usually occurring in the left scrotum and describes as feeling like a bag of worms. Present in upright position, but empties in the supine position.
