Brain Flashcards
Four lobes of Cerebrum
Frontal, Parietal (L and R), Temporal, and Occipital
Cerebellum
below and behind the Cerebrum, looks like a smaller brain.
Muscle movement and posture
Diencephalon
Anteromost part of underside of brain. Includes: Thalamus, Hypothalamus, Optic Chiasm, and Pituitary Gland.
Thalamus
Part of Diencephalon. Processes all senses except smell
Hypothalamus
Part of Diencephalon. Basic body functions: hunger, thirst, sleep, body temp, blood pressure.
Optic Chiasm
Part of the Diencephalon. Where the optic nerves cross
Pituitary Gland
Part of the diencephalon and also the Endocrine System.
Midbrain/Mesencephalon
Visual reflexes, hearing
Pons
Relay center for brain
Medulla Oblongata
Continuous with spinal cord posteriorly and the Pons anteriorly. Impulse relay center: controls heart, respiration, and vasomotor reactions.
Fornix
A bundle of white matter fibers that arches around the thalamus. (not brain specific)
