A
- Weakness, fatigue, paralysis
- Palpitations, cardiac arrhythmias
- Ileus, abdominal distention

Diagnostics for hyperkalemia
A
- Serum potassium: > 5
- ECG: tall peaked waves, wide QRS, sine wave followed by arrhythmias

Management for hyperkalemia if significantly elevated or ECG changes
A
- IV Calcium gluconate to stabilize myocardium
- Potassium lowering agents
- -parenteral insulin with glucose
- -High dose beta-2 agonists are quick acting

- Stage 0: At risk patients (DM, age > 60, AA, NSAID use, family history)
- Stage 1: Kidney damage with normal GFR
- Stage 2: 89-60
- Stage 3: 59-30
- Stage 4: 29-15
- Stage 5: Below 15. Needs dialysis
