-Activated charcoal (if ingested within 1 hour of ingestion)
Symptoms of Bases (Oven cleaner, Bleach, Drain cleaner) ingestion
- Esophageal or gastric perforation
- Epiglottitis
- Respiratory distress
Antidote for ingestion of bases
- Supportive care
- Emesis prevention
- Small amount of milk or H2o as diluent
- DO NOT GASTRIC LAVAGE OR GIVE ACIDS
Symptoms of anticholinergic (antihistamines, atropine or TCA) intoxication
- Hyperthermia (no sweating)
- Tachycardia
- HTN
- Hot, flushed dry skin and mucous membranes
- Mydriasis
- Confusion, Seizure, Coma
Antidote for Antihistamines or Atropine intoxication

What will an ECG show if you OD on TCA’s?
-Wide QRS, prolonged QT (due to Na channel blocker effects)
Intoxication of salicylates such as Aspirin, Pepto Bismol, Wintergreen Oil, Ben Gay has symptoms such as
- Respiratory alkalosis
- Fever
- Seizures, coma, encephalopathy
Treatment for salicylate intoxication
- Resuscitation (ABCs)
- Activated charcoal, gastric lavage
- Sodium bicarbonate to alkalize
- Glucose for CNS symptoms
- IVF
Intoxication of cholinergics has symptoms such as (SLUMD)
Salivation Lacrimation Urination Miosis Diarrhea
Treatment for Cholinergic intoxication
-Atropine + Pralidoxime
