Pulmonary Lobule Flashcards
Passage of Air
Trachea -> Bronchial tree -> bronchi -> pulmonary lobule -> terminal bronchioles -> respiratory bronchioles -> alveolar ducts -> alveolar sacs -> Alveoli
Bronchi
Penetrate the apex of each pulmonary lobule
where rings of smooth muscle and hyaline cartilage on the outer walls hold it open bringing air in.
Smooth Muscle
Regulated the diameter of the passage ways
Excessive contraction will restrict the size of the airway
Terminal Bronchioles
Contain NO hyaline cartilage and branch further to form respiratory bronchioles
Respiratory bronchioles
Include the alveoli
Form multiple alveolar ducts which lead to alveolar sacs
Alveoli
Air filled cavities where gas exchange occurs
Alveolar sacs
Cluster alveoli
Gas exchange
Occurs at the respiratory bronchioles, alveolar ducts, alveolar sacs and alveoli
WHERE ALVEOLI ARE PRESENT
Pseudo-stratified ciliated columnar epithelium
Larynx down to the alveoli
Simple squamous epithelium
Alveoli
So thin that gas exchange happens
Pulmonary arteries
Bring deoxygenated blood from the right side of the heart to the lungs allowing carbon dioxide to diffuse into the alveoli to be exhaled
Pulmonary Veina
Contain oxygen molecules from alveoli
