Diaphragm
Muscle tissue
divides the thoracic cavity from the abdominal cavity
Three major openings
1. Inferior Vena Cava
2. Esophageal Opening
3. Thoracic
Comes from the lumbar vertebrae, costal cartilages and adjacent portions of the ribs and from the xiphoid process of the sternum
Central Tendon
Diaphragm inserts upon this and is continuous with the the pericardium of the heart
Tail of the pancrease
Reaches the spleen
Superior Mesenteric Artery
Branches off the abdominal aorta and emerges under the pancreas to supply the intestines
Hepatic Portal Vein
Formed by the superior mesenteric vein, inferior mesenteric and splenic vein
Posterior to the pancreas
Brings nutrients to the liver fro digestive processing
Hepatic artery
Orginates from the celiac trunk
Brings oxygenated blood to the liver
