Alimentary Canal
Digestive or gastrointestinal tract
1. Can break down both chemically and mechanically
2. Deals with excretion of waste

Composed of: mouth, teeth, tongue, phranyx, skeletal muscle, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, colon, rectum, pancreas, gall bladder
Tongue
Skeletal muscle
Frenulum holds the tongue down, too short can make sounds correctly, “tongue-tied”
Papillae
Found the tongue
Filiform: cones, fine projections that give appearance of the tongue
Fungiform: mushroom
Circumvalate: V shapened, include the test buds at the back of the tongue
Tonsil
huge collection of white blood cells
Lingual: base of the tongue
Pharyngeal = adenoids: throat
Palatine: tongue/ palate
Teeth Lose
Bone/ socket, will be reabosrobed make the jaw lighter

Gastroesophegal reflux disease "heart burn" acid will enter by passing the sphincter can cause cancer and ulcers Blood from ulcers can increase risk of cancer
Stomach
Acts like a blender, doesnt absorb nutrients
Duodenum Dumping
Too much food too fast
Ulcers in the stomach
Not eating enough, digest stomach, can cause bacterial infection
Diet and Cancer
USA = colon high fat diets deficient in fiber Asian = stomach Spices and ingredients and msg FIX Low fat high fiber
Greater Omentum
Lots of blood vessel and white blood cells
Covers all intestines
Shock absorber
Lymph node site
Duodenum
Mucus and alkaline fluid, correct the ph from the stomach acid
Protect against ulcers
Ulcers here will show up as dark stool
Jejunum
Permanent folds, 8 to 10 feet long
Ileum
Smoother 10 to 12 feet long
