Plant adaptations Flashcards
What are xerophytes and what are some adaptations they do
they are plants that receive little water ex dessert
- water storage to store small amounts of water to live on longer
- deeper roots to pull more water from the ground from deep water beds
- reduced leaves for less transpiration loss of water
What are hydrophytes and what are some adaptations they do
less roots to avoid overconsuming water\
breathing roots to receive air instead of drowning
Air spaces to aid with gas exchange and breathing
Stem adaptations
Tubers - Underground storage tissue for asexual reproduction (potatoes plant)
Runners - horizontal growing slender stems ( strawberry)
Shedding bark - gets ride of species that lie on bark (birch tree)
