Q

What are Angiosperms and what groups can they be divided into

A

they are flowering plants and can be diveded into two groups that are
monocots and dicots

Monocots produce seeds in which the embryo has only one cotyledon and dicots produce seeds in which the embryo has two cotyledons

Q

what is cotyledon

A

the first leaf that sprouts from the embryonic part of the seed to help gather nutrients for seed through photosynthesis

Q

Define germination

A

plant growth and development of seed to plant after a period of dormancy(not being able to germinate ex) mung bean seeds in bag

Q

Where is the bulk of the seed taken up in, in a dicot

where is bulk of seed taken up in in monocot

define endosperms

A

two cotyledons

endosperm which is responsible for storing food and developing embryo

Q

what is the main difference between vascular and non vascular plants

A

The main difference between vascular and nonvascular plants is that a vascular
plant has vascular vessels to carry water and food to all the different parts of
the plant.

Q

dicotyledonous and
monocotyledonous plants.

A

The main difference between monocotyledons and dicotyledons is that monocot contains a single cotyledon in its embryo whereas dicot contains two cotyledons in its embryo.

Q

how are monocot and dicot seeds different

A

Dicot seeds are mostly located in the two cotyledons while the monocots are mostly in endosperm.

Q

Plant tissues

A

Meristematic Tissues – cells that undergo mitosis and are
responsible for plant growth

Dermal Tissue – outer cell layers of plants (ex. Epidermis)

Ground Tissue – composed of all internal cells of the
plant except for the vascular plants

Vascular Tissue – involved in the transport of substances
in the plant

Q

Name the only two vascular tissue
And describe them

A

Vascular Tissue

Xylem: compose of thick-walled cells that conduct water and nutrients from the roots to
the rest of the plants

Phloem: composed of thin-walled cells that transport sugars and other plant products
from one part of the plant to another

Q

Epidermis
Cortex

A

Epidermis: outermost layer of cells covering the stem, root, leaf, flower and seed parts of
the plant

Cortex: tissue of unspecialized cells lying between the epidermis and the conducting
tissues of stems and roots
