Kreb cycle Flashcards
Series of _ reactions
8
what is regenerated in Krebs cycle
C4 - oxaloacetate C4= 4 carbons
what happens in kreb cycle
1)COA is released and Acetyl joins with oxaloacetate to from citrate
2)C6 releases a c02 and forms C5 while NAD+ gets reduced and turns into NADH + H
3)C5 releaes C02 and forms C4 while NAD+ gets reduced and turns into NADH + H
4)FADH2 is produced
5) ATP is formed by substrate-level phosphorylation and during this reaction it produces ATP. Oxidation also occurs twice (2 hydrogens are removed). The one hydrogen is accepted by NAD+ and forms NADH + H+.
6) oxaloacetate is regenerated with the formation of H20.
where does kreb cycle occur?
matrix of mitochondria
when acetyl joins with oxaloacetate what does it form?
citrate.
overall what does the kreb cycle make
1 ATP
3 NADH
1 FADH2
this is only for one cycle out of the two*
