Q

what does increased production of beta endorphin do

slowing digestion do?

A

If you are referring to alcohol, alcohol increases the RELEASE of beta endorphins, which makes you feel “happy”. It also increases the TURNOVER of DOPAMINE, which means that the neurotransmitter (dopamine) is removed from the synaptic cleft faster, so memories aren’t formed as well.

Slowing digestion (fight or flight response I am assuming) occurs so that the energy can be used elsewhere (ie. your muscles) for dealing with the threat at hand. DIgestion uses a lot of energy to actively transport nutrients into the blood, so the idea is the ATP is being conserved for yoru muscles to use as needed in the threatening situation.
