DSM-5
Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. Neurosis is not a category in the DSM-5
Neurodevelopmental Disorders
A goon of disorders associated to the development of the nervous system. Learning and communication disorders as well as ADHD and autism.
ADHD
Attention Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder. It is characterized by atypical inattention and/or impulsivity-hyperactivity. It is more prevalent in males than females.
Autism spectrum
A range of neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by impairment in social skills and communication skills as well as repetitive behaviors.
Tourette’s disorder
A the disorder which is characterized by multiple motor tics such as eye-blinking, skipping or deep knee bends; it also has one vocal tic such as grunt, bark. sniff or snorts. The tics are sudden and recurrent and the disorder is for life.
Schizophrenia
Demetia Praecox. Renamed by Eugen Bleater. Literally means split mind by which the mind is split from reality
Positive Symptoms of Schizophrenia
Behaviors, thoughts or affects added to normal behavior such as delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech or behaviors.
Negative Symptoms of Schizophrenia
symptoms that involve the absence of normal or desirable behavior such as flat affect or blunted emotional expression
Delusions
False beliefs, discordant with reality, that are maintained in spite of contrary evidence.
Common Delusions
- Reference- Others are talking about them.
- Persecuton person is deliberately interfered with or discriminated against.
- Grandeur. He or she Is a remarkable person
hallucinations
Perceptions that are not due to external stimuli but have a compelling sense of reality
Disorganized Thought
A symptom of schizophreniawhere an individual has loosened their associations. It may appear as shifting from one subject to another unrelated topic.
Disturbance of Affects
Blunting, Flat Affect, Inappropriate Affect
Catatonic Motor Disorder
A common symptom of schizophrenia where A person exhibits various extreme behaviors such as rigid movements to useless and bizarre movements
Prodromal Phase
The 1st phase in schizophrenia where deterioration, social withdrawal role functioning impairments peallar behaviors, inappropriate affect and woman experiences.
Active Phase
The 2nd phase of schizophrenia where symptoms develop.
Process Schizophrenia
the process where symptom development is slow and recovery is poor.
Reactive Schizophrenia
The process where symptoms quickly develop and recovery is better
Dopamine Hypothesis
The theory that the delusions and hallucinations
Double Blind Hypothesis
The belief that as q child they relieved contradictory and mutually incompatible messages from their primary caregiver thus not trusting their reality
Major Depressive Disorder
At least I mayor depressive episode in 2 week period.
Bipolar Disorder
Characterized by both depression and mania. Bipolar 1 disorder has manic episodes. Bipolar 2 has hypomania
Hypomania
Does not have impaired functioning and presents more energetic and optimistic.
