Phonology
The actual stem sound of language
Categorical Perception
The ability to distinguish between differences in sounds that do not denote differences in meaning and those differences in sound that do denote differences in meaning.
Sematics
Learning of word meanings.
Syntax
How words are put together to make sentences.
Pragmatics
The efficient use of language with tones, inflections and situation.
Babbling
The precursor of language.
Holophrasis
The use of one word to express a complete thought.
Error of Growth
As children master complex grammatical rules, they will overregulate those rules. (ei. I ran becomes I runned)
Children are generalizing some internalized rule
Therefore, language acquisition may not be the result of imitation or reinforcement but active application of a dynamic internalized set of linguistic rules.
Noam Chomsky
Created study on Transformational Grammar.
Transformational Grammar
The ability to use grammatical rules to understand and use language.
Language Acquisition Device
The innate capacity for language acquisition. It allows children the ability to listen to and process sounds.
