Perineum and External Genitalia Flashcards
covered with very thin skin that contains numerous nerve-endings and is therefore very sensitive to touch
glans or head of penis
anterior boundary of perineum
-inferior border of the symphysis pubis
posterior boundary of perineum
coccyx
lateral boundary of perineum
pubic arch, ischial tuberosities, sacrotuberous ligaments
external boundary of perineum
skin
internal boundary of perineum
separated from the pelvic cavity by the pelvic diaphragm
perineum divided into 2 triangles:
Urogenital
Anal
SURROUNDED BY AREOLAR ADIPOSE TISSUE WHICH OCCUPIES THE ISCHIORECTAL FOSSA
POSTERIOR OR ANAL TRIANGLE
Fibromuscular tissue at median plane between lower end of vagina and anal canal
Attachment for the external anal sphincter, pulbospiongosus, and superficial and deep transverse perineal muscles
PERINEAL BODY
SUPERFICIAL PERINEAL POUCH
Lined by Colles’ fascia inferiorly [superficially] and the perineal membrane superiorly [internally].
In the female, it lines the labia major, pudendal cleft, vestibule and labia minora; interrupted only by the urethral and vaginal openings.
Muscles of female superficial pouch
Ischiocavernosus
Bulbocavernosus (Bulbospiongosus)
Superficial Transverse Perineal
pair of small masses of erectile tissue [venous plexuses - Gray] on each side of the vaginal orifice, covered by the bulbo-spongiosus [bulbo-cavernosus] muscles of the perineum. They are the small homologues of the male’s bulb of the penis.
Bulbs of the Vestibule
are small [pea-sized] glands covered by the bulbs of the vestibule. Their slender ducts open externally at the sides of the vaginal orifice at about 4 and 8 o’clock.
Greater Vestibular Glands [of Bartholin] -
Inferior Boundary of Deep Perineal Pouch
perineal membrane
Superior Boundary of Deep Perineal Pouch
blending of the superior fascia of the urogenital diaphragm and the inferior fascia of the pelvic diaphragm
