viral causes of pharyngitis
those associated with simple URIs (rhino, parainflu, corona, RSV) and also coxsackievirus, EBV, and CMV
bacterial causes of pharyngitis
strep pyogenes, diptheria, arcanobacterium hemolyticum
EBV pharyngitis
enlarged posterior cervical lymph nodes, malaise, and hepatosplenomegaly
coxsackievirus pharyngitis
painful vesicles or ulcer ont eh posterior pharynx and soft palate (herpangina). Bilsters may also be present on the palms and soles (hand-foot and mouth disease)
