mostly supportive; IVIG or steroids if very severe; Anti-D Ig is second line; platelet transfusions avoided

how does anti-D immunoglobulin work in treatment of ITP?
A
binds erythrocyte Rh D on RBCs (patients must be Rh pos) and these are cleared by spleen preferentially allowing platelets to escape destriction

prognosis for ITP
A
most cases resolve spontaneoulsy in a few months
