female sex, first born, breech presentation, fam hx, and oligohydramnios
clinical features of developmental dysplasia of hip
positive barlow manuever; positive ortolani maneuver; abnormal galaezzi sign; asymm abduction of the hips and asymm thigh or butt folds
barlow maneuver
attempt to dislocate a dislocatable hip; pos in dysplasia of the hip
ortolani maneuver
reverse of the barlow; relocate a dislocated hip
galeazzi sign
assesses asymm of femur position; place hips in flexion at 90 deg
diagnosis of dysplasia of the hip
u/s in kids up to 6 months old; AP radiograph in older kids
management of dysplasia of the hip
the earlier the dx, the less likely surgery will be needed; pavlik harness
