Pathophysiology of Disease Flashcards
What is pharmokinetics?
Describes the absorption, distribution and biotransformation and extortion of an ingested substance.
What is pharmacodynamics?
Describes the functions of a nutrients and the relationship it has in the body.
What is bioavailability?
How a nutrient acts and functions once it reaches its desired location.
What is does distribution mean?
How a nutrient spreads through out the body.
What can affect the distribution of a nutrient?
-lipid solubility
-ionization state
-blood flow
What is systems biology?
looking at the whole person for evaluation
What is allostasis?
metabolic stability within the body
What is smoldering disease?
chronic inflammation that has been present for years
What inflammatory biomarker is used to determine inflammation in the body?
C-reactive protein
What are antigens?
a toxin that causes an immune response and inflammation (often comes for food we are sensitive to)
Three main nutrients involved I decreasing inflammation and supporting overall body health?
zinc, magnesium and vitamin D
What are flavonoids?
phytonutrients (responsible for the color in different plants)
