What is an introvert?
A quiet, shy, passive and reserved personality type, usually associated with individual sports performance.
The sports they take part in require high levels of concentration and precision, making use of fine movement skills where low arousal is needed.
They enjoy practising.
What is an extrovert?
A sociable, active, talkative and outgoing personality type, usually associated with team sports.
The sports they take part in tend to be fast paced, use gross movement skills and the level of concentration is lower.
What is motivation?
The drive to succeed, or the desire to achieve or be inspired to do something.
It can be intrinsic or extrinsic.
What is intrinsic motivation?
The drive to succeed that comes from within.
It gives them a sense of pride, accomplishment or satisfaction.
What is extrinsic motivation?
The drive to perform well or to win in order to gain external rewards (trophies, prizes or money…)
What type of motivation is more effective?
Intrinsic because it is more likely to lead to continued effort and participation.
Performers can become RELIANT on extrinsic motivation to keep going.
