What is a plane?
An imaginary line that splits the body in two and depicts the direction of movement.
What are the planes?
Frontal
Transverse
Sagittal
What is an axis?
An imaginary straight line through the body around which it rotates.
What are the axes?
Sagittal
Transverse
Longitudinal
What planes and axes go together?
Frontal plane and sagittal axis
Sagittal plane and transverse axis
Transverse plane and longitudinal axis.
What is the frontal plane?
Runs left to right and divides the body into front and back halves.
What is the sagittal axis?
Runs horizontally through the body from front to back, though the belly button.
What is the sagittal plane?
Runs towards and backward and divides the body into left and right halves.
What is the transverse axis?
Runs horizontally through the body from left to right at the hips.
What is the transverse plane?
Divides the body in half horizontally.
What is the longitudinal axis?
Runs vertically through the body from head to toe.
