Paper 1 - Types Of Training Flashcards
What are the types of training?
Circuit Continuous Interval/HIIT Fartlek Weight Static Plyometric High altitude
What is circuit training?
Involves :
Series of exercises, called stations.
Brief periods of rest
6-8 circuits
High intensity
What is continuous training?
Working for a sustained period of time without rest.
Should maintain a steady pace
Working in the aerobic trading zone for a minimum of 20mins.
Also known as ‘steady state’ training.
What is interval/HIIT training?
Involves alternating between periods of work and periods of rest.
HIIT involves alternating between short periods of intense work in the anaerobic zone and periods of active recovery in the aerobic training zone.
What is fartlek training?
Means ‘speed play’. Form of interval training.
Involves periods of fast work with intermittent periods of slower work.
Usually completed outdoors, so there is varied terrain.
What is weight training?
Involves the use of weights/resistance to cause adaptations of the muscles.
There are two types - free weights and resistance machines.
To develop strength/power you should lift heavier than 70% of your one rep max.
To develop muscular endurance you should lift a lighter weight, below 70% of your one rep max.
What is static stretching training?
Involve holding a stretch still for up to 30 seconds.
Flexibility
What is plyometric training?
Involves high-impact exercises that teach the muscles to perform their maximum contractions faster; to be more powerful.
What is high altitude training?
A form of aerobic training.
It is carried out at high altitude, which is anywhere that is over 2000 metres above sea level.
