What is etiquette?
A convention or unwritten rule in an activity. It is not an enforceable rule but it is usually observed.
What is sportsmanship?
Conforming to the rules, spirit and etiquette of a sport.
What is gamesmanship?
Attempting to gain an advantage by stretching the rules to their limit.
What is contact to compete?
An unwritten agreement between opponents to follow and abide by the unwritten rules of the sport.
What’s an example of etiquette?
In golf:
maintain the course - repair divot/pitch marks.
Shake hands at the end of a round.
Football - kicking the ball out of play to allow and injured opponent to be treated.
What’s an example of sportsmanship?
Cricket - the Batsman will ‘walk’ when they know they’re out.
Golf - will correct playing partner if they got your score wrong.
What’s an example of gamesmanship?
Football - time wasting - goal keeper holding on to the ball for as long as possible.
What’s an example of contract to compete?
Not arguing with officials.
Following the etiquette of the sport.
Playing to the best of your ability.
Don’t take performance enhancing drugs.
