Organisation ORGANISATION AND THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM Flashcards
What is a tissue?
A group of cells with similar structure and functions working together. E.g. muscular tissue contracts to bring about movement.
What are organs?
Collections of tissues. Each organ contains several tissues all working together to perform a specific function.
E.g. the stomach contains muscular tissue, glandular tissue and epithelial tissue.
Muscular - churns food and digestive juices
Glandular - produces digestive juices
Epithelial - covers the inside and outside of the organs.
What is an organ system?
A whole multicellular organism is made up of a number of organ systems working together. They are groups of organs that work together to perform specific functions. E.g. digestive system, circulatory system and the gas exchange system.
