Adaptions ORGANISING ANIMALS AND PLANTS Flashcards
How can the effectiveness of a material been improved for exchanging materials?
Large surface wares over which the exchange can take place.
A thin membrane or being thin to provide a short diffusion path.
Efficient blood supply
Being ventilated.
How is the alveoli adapted?
It has an enournous surface area and a very rich blood supply. The villi also have a large surface area, short diffusion paths and a rich blood supply to make the exchange of materials more effective.
How are the plant cells adapted?
Flat, thin leaves, the presence of air spaces in the leaf tissues and the stomata all help to provide a big surface area and maintain a steep concentration gradient for the diffusion of substances, such as water, mineral ions and carbon dioxide.
