Neurone Organelle Functions Flashcards
Dendrons and Dendrites
allow connections between neurones or to receptors
Axon
extension of cytoplasm, carries nerve impulses away from the cell body
Myelin Sheath
wraps around axon + carries nerve impulses away from the cell body
Provides electrical insulation
Nodes of Ranvier
Gaps in myelin sheath that allow nerve impulses to jump along the axon
Cell Body
Provides proteins for dendrites, axons and synapses that contain special organelles
Nerve Endings
Branches to form connections (synapses) with other neurones
Nucleus
Controls neurone’s activities
Cell Membrane
Controls what goes in and out of the cell
Cytoplasm
where chemical reaction happen
contains enzymes, fatty acids, amino acids to keep cell working
