Chemical messengers in the body

Endocrine Glands -> different hormones affect different target organs
How are hormones transported?
Blood
Where is ADH made and what does it do?
Made: Pituitary Gland
Work: Controls water levels in the blood
Where is Adrenaline made and what does it do?
Made: Adrenal glands (on top of kidneys)
Work: Readies the body for a response
Where is Insulin made and what does it do?
Made: Pancreas
Work: Controls blood glucose concentration
Where is Progesterone made and what does it do?
Made: Ovaries
Work: Supports Pregnancy
Where is Oestrogen made and what does it do?
Made: Ovaries
Work: Main female sex hormone
Where is Testosterone made and what does it do?
Made: Testes
How do Hormones bind to target cells
receptors
Oestrogen role in body
Encourages formation of uterus lining
Secondary sexual characteristics
Progesterone role in body
Maintains uterus lining
Testosterone role in body
Supports development of sperm in the testes
Secondary sexual characteristics e.g. facial hair
Insulin role in body
Causes liver cells and muscle cells to store glucose
ADH role in body
Causes more water to be reabsorbed into blood in kidneys
