Neuro psych Quiz 3.1 Flashcards
Neuroanatomy
The anatomy of the nervous system
Central Nervous System (CNS)
The brain and spinal cord
Peripheral Nervous System (PNS)
Connects the brain and spinal cord to the rest of the body.
Somatic Nervous system
a part of the PNS that consists of axons conveying messages from the sense organs to the CNS and from the CNS to the muscles
Autonomic Nervous System
Part of the PNS that controls the heart, intestines, and other organs
Dorsal
Toward the back
Ventral
Toward the stomach (think ventriloquist)
Spinal Cord
Part of the CNS in the spinal column that communicate with all the sense organs and muscles except those of the head.
Root ganglia
The cell bodies of the sensory neurons clustered outside the spinal cord.
What is a cluster of neurons outside the CNS called?
ganglion
What is a cluster of neurons inside the CNS called>
nucleus
Gray matter
Packed with cell bodies and dendrites. sends axons to the brain or other parts of the spinal cord
