A
- Mild to moderate pain second line agents when simple analgesics such as paracetamol are insufficient

OPIOID COMPOUND PREPARATIONS: MOA
A
Paracetamol = weak inhibitor of COX
Codeine and Dihydrocodeine are weak opioids = agonists of opioid mu receptors

OPIOID COMPOUND PREPARATIONS: ADVERSE EFFECTS
A
- Paracetamol = side effects are rare
- Codeine and dihydrocodeine = nausea, constipation and drowsiness
- In OD, paracetamol = heptatotoxicity
- Opioid Toxicity = neurological and respiratory depression

A
- Significant respiratory Dx
- Reduce doses in cases of renal + hepatic impairment
- Elderly
