VITAMINS: INDICATIONS
A
- Thiamine, B1 = Wernickes Encephalopathy and Korsakoffs Psychosis
- Folic Acid, B9 = Megaloblastic Anaemia, 1st Trimester of pregnancy to prevent neural tube defects
- Hydroxycobalamin B12 = Megaloblastic anaemia and subacute combined degeneration of the cord
- Phytomenadione, Vit K = NB babies to prevent Vit K deficient bleeding, reverse anticoag effects of Warfarin

A
- Organic substances required in small amounts for normal metabolic processes

VITAMINS: ADVERSE EFFECTS
A
- When given IV, phytomenadione + high-dose thiamine = ANAPHYLAXIS
- Most other vitamins preparations are relatively harmless

VITAMINS: WARNINGS
A
- Co-existing B12 + Folate Deficiency = Replace both vitamins simultaneously
- Replacing FA alone -> assoc neurological manifestations of B12 def

VITAMINS: INTERACTIONS
A
- Vit K and Warfarin = antagonistic interaction (intitally desirable)
- When attempting to restart Warfarin, may result in erratic dosing requirements
