A
- Gout
- Renal Stones
- Hyperuricemia
- Tumour Lysis Syndrome

ALLOPURINOL: MOA
A
- Xanthine Oxidase Inhibitor
- Lowers plasma uric acid concentrations and decreases precipitation of UA in joints/kidneys

ALLOPURINOL: ADVERSE EFFECTS
A
- Skin rash (can be mild or more serious HSRXN = Steven-Johnson Syndrome, Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis)
- Drug hypersensitivity syndrome = can include fever, eosinophilia, lymphadenopathy and involvement of other organs, such as the liver and skin
- A can also worsen GOUT attacks

ALLOPURINOL: WARNINGS
A
- Acute attacks of Gout
- Recurrent skin rash
- Severe HYPERSENSITIVITY
- Severe renal/liver impairment

ALLOPURINOL: INTERACTIONS
A
- Mercaptopurine and its pro-drug azathioprine
- Co-prescription of allopurinol with amoxicillin
- ACE inhibitors or thiazides
