ANTIMUSCARINICS: INDICATIONS
A
- Atropine, 1st line Bradycardia
- Antimuscarinics (hyoscine butylbromide), 1st line IBS
- DYING PATIENT, role in reducing copious respiratory secretions

A
- Bind to muscarinic receptor where they are a competitive inhibitor of Ach -> PS effects
- Increase HR + conduction
- Reduce smooth muscle tone and peristaltic contractions
- Reduce secretions from glands in (GIT + RESP tract)

ANTIMUSCARINICS: ADVERSE EFFECTS
A
- tachycardia
- dry mouth
- constipation
- Urinary rtn in BPH patients (due to detrusor muscle activity)
- Blurred vision for near objects
- Drowsiness and confusion in the elderly (atropine)
