CARDIO: ADRENALINE (EPINEPHRINE) Flashcards
1
Q
ADRENALINE/EPINEPHRINE: INDICATIONS
A
-Cardiac arrest
- Anaphylaxis
- Induce local vasoconstriction
EXAMPLE - Control local bleeding, prolong local anaesthesia
2
Q
ADRENALINE/EPINEPHRINE: MOA
A
- Potent agonist of a1, a2, b1, b2 adrenoreceptors
- Sympathetic effects - vasoconstriction of vessels, supplying the skin, muscosa and abdo viscera (mainly alph 1)
- Increases HR, contraction and myocardial excitability and vessels that supply the heart and muscles (b2)
- Cardiac arrest = redistribution of blood flow in favour of the heart
- B2 receptors = bronchodilatation and suppression of inflammatory mediator release from mast cells
3
Q
ADRENALINE/EPINEPHRINE: ADVERSE EFFECTS
A
- Adrenaline induced HTN
- In ANAPHYLAXIS patients - anxiety, tremor, headache, palpatations
- Angina, MI, Arrhythmias
4
Q
ADRENALINE/EPINEPHRINE: WARNINGS
A
No CI in cardiac use or anaphylaxis
- Heart dx patients, use in caution when trying to induce local vasoconstriction
- Areas supplied by end artery such as fingers and toes, poor collateral supply can cause vasoconstriction and tissue necrosis
5
Q
ADRENALINE/EPINEPHRINE: INTERACTIONS
A
- Beta blocker
