Q

ADRENALINE/EPINEPHRINE: MOA

A
  • Potent agonist of a1, a2, b1, b2 adrenoreceptors
  • Sympathetic effects - vasoconstriction of vessels, supplying the skin, muscosa and abdo viscera (mainly alph 1)
  • Increases HR, contraction and myocardial excitability and vessels that supply the heart and muscles (b2)
  • Cardiac arrest = redistribution of blood flow in favour of the heart
  • B2 receptors = bronchodilatation and suppression of inflammatory mediator release from mast cells

Q

ADRENALINE/EPINEPHRINE: WARNINGS

A

No CI in cardiac use or anaphylaxis

  • Heart dx patients, use in caution when trying to induce local vasoconstriction
  • Areas supplied by end artery such as fingers and toes, poor collateral supply can cause vasoconstriction and tissue necrosis
