- Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis

Aetiology?
A
fat deposited in liver cells which interferes with liver cells’ functioning

Ix?
A
- abnormal LFTs with no clear cause –> non-invasive liver screen
- ELF blood test (to assess fibrosis once NAFLD diagnosis reached)
- NAFLD fibrosis score where ELF not available
- Fibroscan

Diagnosis?
A
ELF:
- <7.7 –> no to mild fibrosis
- 7.7-9.8 –> moderate fibrosis
- >9.8–> severe fibrosis

Mx?
A
- wt loss
- exercise
- cut smoking and alcohol
- control of DM, BP etc
- refer to hepatologist

complications?
A
increases risk of stroke, MI & DM
