antibodies directed towards hepatocyte surface antigens

Type 1- adults
- ANA
- Anti-Smooth muscle antibodies
- Anti-soluble liver antigen
Type 2- children
- Anti-LKM1
- Anti-LC1

epidemiology?
A
- type 1- women around late 40s/50s
- type 2- pts in teenage years / early 20s

Q
symptoms?
A
- fatigue/malaise
- anorexia
- abdo discomfort
- hepatomegaly
- Jaundice

Q
Ix?
A
- LFTs- high ALT & AST
- Raised IgG
- Auto-antibodies
- Liver biopsy - inflammatory changes on histology

Q
Mx?
A
- immunosuppression
- prednisolone/azathioprine
- liver transplant, however disease may recur

Q
Prognosis?
A
remission in 80% of pts
