Aetiology?
A
Auto-immune
- auto-abs towards gastric parietal cells & intrinsic factor –> pt develops pernicious anaemia
Bacterial- H.Pylori
Chemical- NSAIDs, alcohol, bile reflux

symptoms?
A
- dyspepsia
- nausea, vomiting and loss of appetitie

Ix?
A
- H.Pylori urea breath test
- H.Pylori faecal antigen test
- FBC
to consider:
- endoscopy
- gastric mucosal histology
- serum vit B12

Q
Mx?
A
depends on aetiology
- H.Pylori–> eradication therapy
- NSAIDs / alcohol –> reduce / discontinue use
- auto-immune –> cyanocobalamin (vit b12)
+ symptomatic mx: H2 antagonists / PPI

complications?
A
- progression to peptic ulcer disease
- gastric carcinoma / lymphoma
