A

LOS dysfunction–> reflux of gastric contents into oesophagus –> oesophagitis

*opposite of achalasia*

A

Anorexia

Loss of weight (unintentional)

Anaemia

Recent onset >55years

Mass / melaena (GI bleed)

Swallowing problems (dysphagia)

  • ambulatory 24h pH monitoring
  • oesophageal manometry
  • barium swallow

A
  • 24h pH monitoring
    • pH <4 more than 4% of the time- abnormal
  • manometry
    • low pressure at GOJ

  • conservative - wt loss, avoidance of smoking and alcohol
  • medical
    • simple antacids
    • H2 blockers
    • PPI
  • surgery: laparoscopic fundoplication

  • reflux oesophagitis
