Ligaments of the wrist- radiocarpal joint: Radial collateral ligament
Styloid process of radius to scaphoid bone
Function: Strengthens articular capsule and provides stability to radiocarpal articulation
Ligaments of the wrist- radiocarpal joint: Ulna collateral ligament
Styloid process of ulna to triquetrum bone of hand distally
Function: Strengthens articular capsule of the wrist and stabilizes joint
Flexor retinaculum (forms the carpal tunnel) (palmer side)
Medially: Pisiform bone and hook of hamate to tubercle of scaphoid and crest of trapezium laterally
Function: To serve as a pulley for the carpal flexor muscles and to stabilize the carpal system
Extensor retinaculum (dorsal side)
Laterally: Lower part of the anterior border of the radius to syloid process of ulna, triquetral and pisiform medially
Function: Helps to keep the extensor tendons in alignment and prevent bowstringing during movements
Intercarpal ligaments: Interosseous Intercarpal ligaments
- Lunotriquetral
- Capitohamate
- Scapholunate
- Trapeziotrapzoidal
- Trapezoideocapitate
Function: provide stability to the intercarpal joints
