Joints- Hip Flashcards
Type of joint
Synovial Joint- ball and socket
Movements
Flexion, Extension, Abduction, Adduction, Medial rotation, Lateral rotation, Circumduction
Articulations
Between ellipsoid head of femur and lunate surface of acetabulum hip bone
What three Capsular ligaments make up the articular capsule of the hip joint
Illiofemoral, Pubofemoral, Ischiofemoral
Illiofemoral ligament
Goes from the ilieum to femur
Pubofemoral ligament
Pubis to femur
Ischiofemoral ligament
Ishium to femur
What is the ligament of the head of the femur called?
Ligamentum teres, Flat band of connective tissue from fovia attaching into the acetabular fossa
Where is the transverse ligament of the acetabulum?
attaches round the inferior region of the acetabulum
Where is the Acetabular labrum located?
And what does it do?
A ring of fibre cartilage surrounding the acetabulum. It deepens the acetabulum to allow better congruency at the joint.
Vascular of the hip joint (5)
Medial and Lateral Circumflex Femoral Arteries, Obturator Artery, Superior and Inferior gluteal arteries.
Therefore disruption to the Periaticular Anastomosis can be very problematic or death of femur
Innervation of the hip joint (4)
Sciatic, Femoral, Obturator Nerves.
Does the hip joint contain and Synovial Membrane?
Yes
Which 2 intracapsular ligaments are present at the hip joint?
Transverse ligament of the acetabulum, ligament of head of femur
What does the Bursae around the trochanteric help with?
Shock absorption and friction
