Joints- Shoulder Flashcards

1
Q

Scapulothoracic joint- articulation and function

A

-Not a true anatomical joint but a physiological joint which gathers the sternoclavicular joint and acromioclavicular joint.
It is the junction between the anterior surface of the scapula and the thoracic cage
- Action: Elevation, depression, retraction and axial rotation

Q

Does the GH joint have a capsule?

A

Yes, it is like a look cylindrical sleeve which is stronger anteriorly but quite lax because it needs to provide for movement.

16
Q

There’s a small wedge shaped fibrocartiloginous disc between the articulation, what does it do?

A

It helps compensate for the incongruity at the joint

17
Q

What ligaments are associated with the Acromioclavicular joint?

A

Either capsule thickening or superior and inferior acromioclavicular ligaments
Extracapsular ligament: Coracoclavicular ligaments

18
Q

Acromioclavicular joint contains a small intra articular disc, what does it do?

A

Increases congruency of the area

19
Q

Blood supply of the acromioclavicular joint

A

Suprascapular branch of the subclavian artery and acromial branch of the thoracoacromial trunk

20
Q

Nerve supply of the acromioclavicular joint

A

Lateral pectoral, suprascapular, axillary nerves

21
Q

Movements of the acromioclavicular joint

A

Elevatiom, depression, protraction, retraction and axial rotation
