Multisystem Trauma Flashcards
1
Q
Golden principles of care for multisystem trauma
In order of operations (10)
A
- Scene safety
- Call for additional resources if needed
- Determine MOI and severity
- Identify and manage life threats
- Maintain airway whil managing spine motion restrictions
- Support ventilation and oxygenation
- Control the bleed if there is one
- Secondary assessment and obtain a history
- Splint
- make a transport decision
2
Q
Increased risks for pregnant patients
(6)
A
- Tension pneumothorax - diaphram pushes upward increasing tension
- Higher risk for vomiting and aspiration - Gastric motility decreases
- Uterine injuries - continues to grow and rises out of the pelvis
- Bladder is displaces into abdominal cavity
- Pelvic joints lossen and center of gravity changes which increases risk of falls
- Fetus size during 2nd-3rd trimester increases risk of supine hypotensive syndrome

4
Q
Most reliable vital sign that indicates a pediatric trauma pt is in hemorrhagic shock
why?
A
- Skin temp, color, cap refill, and mental status
- Blood pressure can remain relatively normal throughout all stages of compensatory shock
5
Q
what age should you pad beneath a childs sholders to hips when doing spine motion restriction?
