Movement Flashcards
How can organisms increase chance of survival?
By responding to changes in environment (stimuli) to provide a suitable response
2 types of simple movement responses organisms can make due to stimuli
Taxes
Kinesis
Taxes
A directional response there a whole organism moves either towards (pos) or away (neg) from a stimuli
This is directly to it
Kinesis
Random movements by the whole organism to find favourable conditions, without moving directly
If organism is in unfavourable conditions
Moves fast and turns little so more likely to find favourable conditions by random
If organism is in favourable conditions in Kinesis…
Moves slowly and turns a lot so will remain in favourable conditions
Net effect of Kinesis
Moves randomly towards favourable conditions and will remain there
Answering questions on Kinesis/taxis
Requires stating an evolutionary benefit
