Molecular genetics Flashcards
nucleoside
no phosphates
nucleotide
have phosphates
Which are bigger, Purines or Pyramidines?
Purines
Which bond is stronger, AT or GC?
GC
Which bases are purines?
A and G
Which bases are pyramidines
T and C
DNA
Anti-parallel, Phosphodiester bonds hold each strand together, H-Bonds hold the pairs together, Bases are hydrophobic (base stacking)
Chromosome organization in prokaryotes
1 circular double stranded chromosome, cytoplasm, no telomere
Chromosome organization in eukaryotes
single line, 23 sets of chromosomes, a lot of DNA, big genome. Chromosomes are wrapped around histones (compact), in the nucleus, centromeres and telomeres
What is centromere
what the spindle fibers attach to during cell division
what is a telomere?
the end of the chromosome
