What is the MOA of fibrates? How do they promote gallstone formation?
> MOA: upregulates LPL and dec VLDL production, inc HDL prodn by stimulating PPAR-alpha.
It can also inhibit 7-alpha hydroxylase, w/c dec. bile acid synthesis and thus inc. stone formation.
What is the DOC for opioid withdrawal?
Methadone is a long-acting mu-receptor agonist with good bioavailabilty. It suppresses cravings and withdrawal ssx.
What is the presentation for arsenic poisoning? Treatment?
Arsenic presents with abdominal pain, vomiting, severe watery diarrhea, hypotension (dehydration), and garlic odor on the breath. Treatment is Dimercaprol.
How does idiopathic intracranial HTN (pseudotumor cerebri) present?
Usually, in young obese women w/ daily headache, bilateral papilledema, and transient visual disturbances due to compression of the optic nerves.
