Describe the 3 degrees of AV block
1st - prolonged PR interval
2nd - blocked p-wave conduction resulting in no QRS complex
Mobitz type I and II
3rd - Dissociation of P and QRS complex
Cause of AV block and which drugs
Increased parasympathetic tone can produce marked slowing of AV node conduction – causing 1, 2, 3, AV block
Opioids and ace can increase parasympathetic tone
Sinus arrest or block
usually vagally mediated and safe to anesthetize
Complete resolution of bradycardia with atropine or glycol indicates that _____

Diltiazem MOA
Works on the SA and AV nodes (tissues in which slow Calcium influx is largely responsible for phase 0 depolarization)
Slows sinus rate and AV conduction
Conditions treated with diltiazem and which are unresponsive
Ventricular rate is reduced in patients with atrial fibrillation or flutter
Primary ventricular arrhythmias are unresponsive to diltiazem
Pimobendan class of drug
Positive inotrope (inodilator – vasodilates arterial and venous vessels)
Pimobendan MOA
Acts like calcium sensitizer
Enhances calcium-troponin C interaction
Prolongs the action potential duration by enhancing calcium current
Furosemide class of drug
Loop diuretic – acts on loop of Henle
