Chapter 106 Cardiac Surgery Flashcards
Branches of the left coronary artery
Separates into paraconal interventricular branch and the circumflex branch
Dominant coronary artery in dogs vs cats
Left coronary artery is normally the dominant coronary artery in dogs whereas the right coronary artery is the dominant artery in cats.
Anatomy of the aortic arch
Aortic arch arises from the fibrous skeleton of the heart and travels craniodorsally on the left side of the trachea and esophagus
What are the first branches of the aortic arch
First branch is the brachiocephalic trunk (A) which give rise to the common carotid arteries and right subclavian artery
Second branch is the left subclavian (B)
What are the two kinds of external work the heart does
generates pressure (potential energy) and ejects volume (kinetic energy)
Describe the ventricular pressure-volume plot
the relationship between electrical, pressure, volume, flow, and valve motion events that occur during one complete cardiac systole and diastole.
What does the area inside the loop represent in a ventricular pressure-volume plot
external work done by the heart in one cycle
