Increase in arousal may cause a rise in heart rate and sweating
What is arousal?
A physical and mental state of readiness varying from deep sleep to intense excitement

Describe deep breathing
- it is a somatic technique
- it exaggerates that breaths in and out, this calms nerves and controls arousal
What is mental rehearsal
- it is a cognitive technique
- involves the performer picturing themselves performing the skill perfectly before attempting it
- Controls mental thoughts and imagines positive outcomes
What is positive self talk?
- is a cognitive technique
- The performer talks to themselves in their head to reassure themselves that they are doing well
