when the performer can see something

Is visual guidance affective for beginners?
Yes, so that they can see and start understand what they expected to do
What is needed for beginner to understand visual guidance?
It needs to be:
- clear
- quick
- realistic standard for the beginner to copy
Is visual guidance effective for elite performers?
No, however can be used to highlight minor errors in technique using slo-mo
What is verbal guidance?
Telling A learner what they are doing right or wrong or a trigger word
Verbal guidance will only work for beginners if:
- it relates to the visual guidance being given
- it is not too long or complex
What is manual guidance?
Physically moving the performer
What is mechanical guidance?
Using a physical aid
What are the benefits of manual/mechanical guidance?
- allows the performer to produce the required movement when they may not have been able to do it by themselves
- make the performer feel safe and build confidence
- they learn the feel of the correct movement
- it could support and potentially dangerous situations
- can help people with specific learning difficulties
What are the negative‘s of manual/mechanical guidance?
- Close proximity of a coach may be unsettling
- beginners get reliant on aids
Do elite performers need verbal guidance?
Yes, it is likely to be longer and more complex it allows fine-tuning of technique
Do beginners need mechanical/manual guidance?
Yes to support or guide through that correct technique
