Children who has a splenectomy
Once a major cause of meningitis but is now rarely seen
Haemophilus Influenzae
pressured pituitary gland causing increased production of antidiuretic hormone results in
Syndrome of Inappropriate Antidiuretic Hormone
Syndrome of Inappropriate Antidiuretic Hormone can cause
Hyponatremia
Meningeal irritability occur as evidenced by
positive Brudzinski and Kernig Sign
If the meningitis is caused by Haemophilus Influenzae, the child may develop
septic arthritis
What CSF results indicates Meningitis
*increased WBC
*Increase protein levels
*Increased ICP
*glucose levels less than 60% of blood glucose
IF the child had close association with someone with tuberculosis, ______ is done to rule out tuberculosis meningitis
Tuberculin skin test
is the primary therapy for Meningitis
Antibiotic Therapy
may be necessary to allow the chosen antibiotic to pass freely into the CSF
Intrathecal Injections
