LABOR DYSTOCIA Flashcards
A difficult labor - dystocia - can arise from any of the four main components of the labor process
*power (force)
*passenger (fetus)
* passageway (birth canal)
*psyche (perception)
not more than two or three contractions in a 10-minute period.
hypotonic uterine contraction
In hypotonic contraction, the resting tone of the uterus remains less than
10 mmHg
In hypotonic contraction, the strength of contraction does not rise above
25 mmHg
marked by an increase in resting tone to more than 15 mmHg
Hypertonic Uterine Contractions
How is hypertonic uterine contraction dangerous?
lack of relaxation between contractions that may not allow optimal uterine artery filling leading to fetal anoxia.
is a latent phase that lasts longer than 20 hours in a nullipara or 14 hours in a multipara
Prolonged Latent Phase
if the active phase lasts longer than 12 hours in a primigravida or 6 hours in a multigravida
Protracted Active Phase
A deceleration phase has become prolonged when it extend beyond _ in a nullipara or _ in a multipara
3 hours in a nullipara or 1 hour in a multipara
a prolonged deceleration phase most often results from
abnormal fetal head position
has if there is no progress in cervical dilatation for longer than 2 hours
Secondary Arrest of Dilatation
labor is started artficially
induction of labor
assisting labor that has started spontaneously but is not effective
augmentation of labor
induction of labor is not used an an elective procedure until the fetus is
term (39 weeks)
change in the cervical consistency from firm to soft
cervical ripening
